from 43 reviewsThis is the updated version of what I had in the military. I also bought 2 of the camp ones. They work great and have already gotten good use so far!
Package arrived quick, both Ponchos arrived in perfect condition, fit great, snaps snap, can't wait to try it out! Served in the Navy and never got all the cool stuff infantry guys got and got soaked to the bone every storm on a carrier! 33 years later I don't want soaked to the bone and this poncho looks like the real Mccoy, excellent craftsman, and doesn't have CHINA stamped all over it smelling like their crap rubber! Way to go ORC, knocked it out of the park!
It is as described and seems to be made well.
Sizing on this is excellent; I'm 5'-10" with a 35" sleeve, and this does the trick. The bottom is just below my knees, and in a light rain for short walks, even the bottom of my pants stay dry; this seems to throw the water away as I walk. For a longer exposure in heavy rain, certainly my pants get soaked but only to just my knees. My wrists would easily stay dry if I were not holding a dog leash. The length however is not so long that I would trip on it, and I even used it for a few minutes climbing a ladder without having any mobility issues.
The hood is quite deep, but you may need a cap with a strong, long bill to hold the hood up; at that point my face seems to stay dry even walking into a pretty decent breezy rain.
Construction is quite good. The only possible complaint, and it could just be a matter of break-in, is that the snaps are very stiff to close and you may need two hands to pop them closed (they open with no issue).
For only about 5 bucks more than a foreign-made item, I'm thrilled to be able to get a very solid product made in the USA!
I have two ponchos, the older is a woodland camo and my recent purchase is od. Since my woodland is quite old I am using it primarily for the outer shell of a woobie and my od one as a poncho. These ponchos are large enough to use while wearing a back pack/day pack and shelter under during a heavy down pour. Instead of using the snaps I use plastic or coated binder clips so I cannot give an evaluation of the snaps. With a poncho liner it makes an excellent bedroll.
Good gear. I would have preferred traditional metal snaps. But these plastic ones seem adequate, time will tell.
Well, maybe not quite singing but I am happy with the poncho. Built to military spec which is what I wanted for wearing or setting up a temp shelter in an emergency. Good price too. I would purchase again or recommend to a friend.
OD poncho. Strong and lightweight. Well sewn, strong grommets. Side snaps are very secure when fastened. I seam sealed the hood, but this was probably unnecessary. There is no drawstring at the waist to secure it. Would recommend. Good price.
Great poncho overall, looks, size and versatility!
Thank you!
Dear orc industries...
Few week's I made a purchase for the hunting jacket but I accidentally left the size medium in my cart when cashing out. I wanted a large size jacket. This was totally my fault. When receiving my jacket it was a medium size. I filled out the exchange form and the next day Rose emailed me. I called her and she was extremely nice and thoughtful about my needs. Rose gave me a confirmation number and I shipped it back. Today I received my large hunting jacket and I am very pleased and happy with it. I have a orc industries one man survival tent from 20 years ago and it is going strong. I have camped on mountains with it. I've been through blizzards with it. I have lived through hail and slept in my One man military survival tent you made 20 years ago. I bought it at a military surplus store. I trusted my life with your gear, it has held up. I'm looking forward to purchasing the new One man military survival tent I see you have on your website. I highly recommend purchasing from orc industries. That tent in that picture went through 11 feet of snow and survived. I survived 11 feet of snow living in your 20 year old tent.
Very pleased with this poncho. Much like the one I that I had in the Army years ago, except that that one was olive drab color with steel grommets. I hope these plastic grommets hold up. But I do like this new one anyway.
Much nicer than the usgi industries ponchos on amazon. wish they offered different camo options. These ponchos are the ones to get hands down
I bought the ORC poncho because of the larger size (I'm 6'2" and it fits great) and that it's made in the USA by a long time supplier to our armed forces. You won't find a better poncho for anywhere near this price.
Well, apparently the US ponchos do have plastic snaps. My 20+ year memory of my old army poncho is apparently fading me. That being the case, I give the poncho a 5 star review, so disregard the 3 star review. Material is good and the rings look strong.
